SunRaven Book Club

Written by the best selling author of Tuesdays With Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Mitch Albom, this book is a story about the power of love.

As the title suggests it is an exploration of our personal fantasies about having a second chance to go back and fix our broken relationships--with others and ourselves.

In the end, For One More Day mostly forces us to reflect on our current choices.

Please join us for that discussion at SunRaven on Monday June 18th at 7:30 PM.

Mindful Eating:

Thursday May 24

Considering the importance of healthy nutrition, it is ironic that so many of us are so easily swayed by diet gurus and the latest fads. More so, the medical profession, despite its claims, understands little about the true nature of food. And neither truly appreciated the integrative activity of eating itself.

We are simply in a dream world if we really believe that there is a technological solution or a one-size-fits-all perfect diet.

So what then, do we believe, and what should we understand about food? And, where does our food come from? What is our experience when we are eating?

This first discussion will approach "nutrition" from aspects that cover the mind, body and spirit of food and those that consume it. It will help us orient to the essence of the integration of physical nutrients and the more subtle energy that we also acquire when we eat.

Fasting and Detox:

Thursday May 31

We spend much of our lives eating and accumulating unwanted debris, not only from the food we eat, but from the environment and the conditions in which we live. What happens to the "gunk" (or amma as it is called in Ayurveda)? How might we clear ourselves and what are the implications if we do not do this effectively?

This second discussion will describe the effects of toxins on the body, mind and spirit. We will specifically review the various types of fasts and cleanses and how we can maximize the elimination of toxins in order to become more clear.

Living in Balance:

Thursday June 7

Our culture is famous for its intensity and fast pace. We even approach the business of rest and relaxation with vim and vigor. Cultures in the East, however, more readily realize that there are distinct cycles that require mindful attention and periods of both activity and inactivity. We would do well to apply this thinking to each--the mind, body and spirit.

This third discussion is meant to encourage participants to recognize and honor the inherent cycles in nature, specifically our own. Ideal health might be best equated to a state of balance that can only be achieved in this way. We will share ideas that may help us move from a more focused, goal oriented mindset to one that revolves around the center.

We hope you will join us for these discussions,
