Imblog Fire Ceremony

Celebration of Imblog & St. Brigid

Friday January 30th
7:00 - 9:30PM

Imbolg (eem-bolg) and the festival of St. Brigit are celebrated on or around February 1st.  There are many stories and legends about both of these occasions.  The common theme is that after the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year, there seems to be a time of darkness during the month of January.  In ancient cultures it was referred to as the Wolf-month or Dead-month.  Especially those who live in the Northern Hemisphere can feel this.  In the Celtic tradition, Imbolg was a time to celebrate the return of light and the stirrings of spring within mother earth.

St. Brigid or the Celtic Goddess Brigit also has a feast day on February 1st.   As a Saint and Triple Goddess, she is said to bring healing and protection.  Brigit, has a deep connection with the hearth fire, she brings to us the strength of our own eternal flame of light, love and consciousness.  Brigit can guide us through the darkest of times and help us to remember the light within, just as mother earth awakens into spring.

The fire ceremony was taught to us by the late Shaman Lorna Roberts.  We follow in her tradition of using the power of intention, authenticity, and creativity to help uncover the blockages that prevent us from living in joy, love and peace.  The element of fire represents transformation.  The fire ceremony is a ritual of intention to help propel you forward on your personal life path.

Please join Annie West, Holistic Nurse/Acupuncturist, who apprenticed the late Shaman Lorna Roberts for over 13 years & Michael Finkelstein, MD "Founder & Spiritual Leader of SunRaven".

SunRaven Group Space

The Monthly Spiritual Gathering, is designed to fill a niche that appears to be missing for many....an opportunity to spend time in a community, sharing a sacred space and connecting to spirit--unbridled by the trappings of many religious institutions.

The Gatherings are typically held on the fist Sunday of the month, and are led by Michael Rosenbaum, after some opening remarks from SunRaven's founder, Dr. Michael Finkelstein. Please join us.

Mindful Gardening Project 2009

Sunday February 1,  1:00-3:00PM

Monday February 2, 7:00-9:00PM

 Raised Bed 2
It is not too soon to start thinking about the gardening season. In fact with the weather outside now, it is comforting to think of warmer days ahead.

The Mindful Garden Project at SunRaven is entering its fourth season and is open to new members! For those interested it is important to attend one of the two meetings that will be held at the beginning of next month. A final date for commitment will follow soon afterward, (believe it or not, we will begin planting on March 1st, just 7 weeks away!)

If you cannot attend one of these two meetings, but are interested in participating in the project please contact me directly at garden@sunraven.org. Since there is a limited number of spaces available, priority will be given to those who attend the meetings and on a first come first served basis.

SunRaven Book Club

Thursday February 5, 7PM

This month's book club will reintroduce the discussion of the remarkable discoveries that demonstrate the alignment of science with ancient wisdom and the common practical understanding of our shared human experience.

Dr. Bruce Lipton takes us through the research that adds credibility to the notion that the integration of our mind, body and spirit is worth our serious attention. Further, the work reinforces the SunRaven philosophy  that the development of a clearer more accurate appreciation for our experience of life is critical to our health and happiness and to the achievement of our highest potential.

Please join us and share your insights, for it is in community that we help each other in such an endeavor.

Announcing the New Skillful Living Blog

Over the course of several years I have received and answered many questions regarding my philosophy and approach to healthy living. Through my training as a physician and subsequent education in the field of Integrative and Holistic Medicine I have come to appreciate that the pursuit of health requires preparation, much like any other skill we might wish to develop. I call this Skillful Living.

Of note, quite recently, I completed the manuscript for my first book, titled Skillful Living: A New Paradigm for Health. This is an exciting time for me professionally and I am looking forward to its publication and wider distribution.

In advance of this auspicious occasion, I wish to share many of these insights now and encourage your participation in the dialogue which I hope will enrich the lives of many.

To connect, please enter the SunRaven website and click on the link to the Skillful Living Blog and please share the link with others you feel will benefit. Talk to you soon!
